Structuring the Career College Research Paper:
Comparing and contrasting
1. You will get a much better grade for the course if you structure your research paper by career/college characteristic rather than by career or college name.
For example:
Careers: Nature of Work. (in this section compare and contrast information gleaned on the nature of the work for the careers you have chosen).
Colleges: Admissions. (in this section compare and contrast admissions requirements for the colleges you have chosen)
2. Have a little introduction and concluding statement (these don’t have to be full paragraphs) for each section. This will force you to compare the chosen colleges and career and you’ll be thinking more about what it means to you rather than just reporting information.

Ask your partner what about this course had them thinking. Did something happened between a conversation with other students, something he/she came across while surfing the web? . Was there an “Ah-ha!!!” moment when the made a realization about something related to career development?

A. Create a Linkedin profile. Go to www.linkedin.com and create a
profile. Post on blog the link to your profile and find friends and/or classmates and connect with them.
B. Professional Associations. Read Wiki page for professional associations. Conduct web search for professional associations in a career(s) of interest to you. Find two relevant assocations. Read the "About" or "Mision" page browse website (job postings, membership info, etc). Post on blog link to organization and summary of mission and usefulness for you.

1. Must have an objective (short and specific) (a challenging position utulizing my skills.....blah, blah, blah...will not be accepted).
2. Formatting should be consistent.
3. Job descriptions should start with appropriate action verb in appropriate tense. See: http://www.bc.edu/offices/careers/skills/resumes/verbs.html
4. ONE PAGE! (unless you have an advanced postion which you've been at for over ten years!).
5. Education and Job experience should be tied to objective.

2. Find 3 CREDIBLE websites with SUBSTANTIVE advice on writing cover letters (you can even customizing the advice by finding sites related to specific careers of interest to you).
3. Post on you blog the links to the sites and a summary of the advice (hint: you may want to compare and contrast it to my advice on writing cover letters.
B>Myer's-Briggs personality test:
1. Scroll down to my January 3rd post for links.
2. Read about the test from the first link
3. Take the test with the second link. Also when you get the results, read about your personality, it's code, it's name, it's description, and possible careers for your personality.
4. for blog post, title your blog with the code and name of your personality.
5. For your blog entry write about how the code and personality matches up with your predictions and write 2 more paragraphs telling us what you think of the test and your experience with it.
